Alice Deal Volunteer Activities

Auction – Help put on the PTA’s biggest annual fundraiser and a fun evening for Deal parents and staff.   Solicit or donate items, design invitations, write or edit the catalog, provide computer support, plan or prepare food, decorate, check in or check out bidders, tend bar or clean up after the party – there are countless ways you can help!  (February 2010).

Book Fairs
            Politics and Prose ─ Promote and staff the Politics and Prose Deal Book Fair  (November 2009).
            Spring Fair @ Deal  ─  Promote and staff this fundraiser and effort to stock the Deal library.  (May 2010)

Career Day ─ Share information about your job or career with a homeroom class on “Career Day.”  (Nov. 2009)

CFC/United Way Campaign ─ Promote parent participation.  Assist in filing application and documentation.

Chaperone School Parties ─ On-site attendance at Halloween, Spring and class parties.

Foreign Language FundraisingHelp Language Department plan events to raise funds for student trips abroad.

Gift Wrap  ─ Assist in collecting and entering orders, receiving and distributing merchandise. (September/October 2009)

Grant  Writing─  Help to identify and apply for grants to supplement Deal’s academic and extracurricular programs and help teachers identify and apply for grants for classroom projects or professional development.

History Fair ─ Be a Judge – Parents and others with backgrounds in research, writing and analysis (not just historians) are invited to serve as Judges (50 judges are needed, including those with backgrounds in journalism, history, museum studies, law, etc.).  Volunteers are also needed to help with registration and set-up. (March 2010)

Holiday Greens Sale ─ Sell holiday greens during a weekend in December.

Hospitality─ Organize refreshments for PTA events (parent workshops, key PTA meetings, etc.).

Ice Cream Social – Scoop ice cream, serve drinks, set up or clean up for this school-wide party after the Spring concert.

International Night – Coordinate a food table or bring your favorite dish to share in this celebration of Deal’s rich cultural diversity and our new official status as an International Baccalaureate school!  (November 2009)

Newsletter Distribution ─ Help to prepare newsletters (labels and stamps) for mailing.

Open Houses ─ Welcome potential families to Deal and direct them in visiting classes during the day. (Nov./Dec. 2009)

Parent Education Workshops ─ Help identify speakers and coordinate promotion of workshops.

Phonathon ─ Call friendly Deal parents who want to contribute to their child’s education. (December 2009)

Printing Facilities ─ Provide access to printing facilities for free or reduced prices on printing for the PTA.

Safeway/Giant eScrip ─ Promote parent participation.  Enter grocery card numbers into database.

School Spirit Items ─ Help create and sell special Deal items like T-shirts, stickers, bags, or water bottles. 

Science Fair  ─ Be a Judge  Parents and others with a range of backgrounds are invited to serve as Judges (80 individuals are needed with backgrounds or careers in science, math, medicine, technology, clinical care, engineering, architecture, etc.).  Or, help with set-up, planning, and hospitality.

Teacher Appreciation – Plan special lunch/breakfast or gifts to thank teachers for their excellent work with our kids.

Written Translation/Spoken Interpretation, Spanish/English ─  Share your language skills by translating the PTA newsletter and other PTA communications into Spanish; or help interpret at meetings.
